Going with the flow of a spiritual awakening

by | Mar 26, 2024

I’ve noticed something over the past few years. People aren’t as surprised when I say that part of my coaching practice is helping people though a spiritual awakening. I used to hesitate to tell people that for fear of an awkward silence, a look that says, I don’t know what she’s talking about or the feeling that they may think I am “one of those woo-woo people”.  What’s interesting is that I don’t get those reactions anymore. More and more people are comfortable talking about the spiritual side of life. The connected to a higher source, the universe, divine presence, whatever you want to call it side of humanity. I also feel the need to talk about it in my own life whether with a client, family, friends, strangers or in a blog post.  It’s liberating that it’s a way more discussed topic than years ago.

The spiritual awakening process, which can be defined as a raising of consciousness and awareness, questioning beliefs, values and old patterns, and discovering what you came here to do and why.  Not too heavy, huh?

Here are some common threads I have seen with those who I have spoken to who have gone through a spiritual awakening. This includes my own experience.

  • It can happen when life events initiate an awakening, usually these are difficult situations. See my other blog, How To Know If You Are Having A Spiritual Awakening
  • It can also happen spontaneously, as in a kundalini awakening, but it doesn’t always have to be with kundalini.
  • There is a feeling that you don’t know who you are anymore.
  • There can be a feeling of separation from everything familiar; job, family, friends, old habits and activities.
  • Emotions can be a roller coaster ride.
  • Isolation and loneliness can set in and yet at the same time you can crave  being alone.
  • Along with the above, there can be a feeling that no one understands what you are going through. This can lead to the next one.
  • A feeling that you are going crazy.
  • Everything feels unimportant. You question society and all institutions.
  • You may experience physical symptoms that have no diagnosis.
  • You can feel apathetic, lost and disillusioned.
  • Heightened sensitivity to anything; food, people, noise, light, smells, places, etc.
  • Intuition increases, sometimes profoundly.
  • Vivid dreams and/or lucid dreaming.
  • A connection to angelic beings/guides/masters.
  • A deeper connection to animals and nature.
  • A sense of connectedness to God/source/universe.
  • A new interest in crystals, tarot and channeling.
  • A pull toward guru/shaman/healer information, including videos, books, blogs, courses and retreats.
  • An interest in things you never explored before but had a curiosity for like energy healing, different diets, astrology, mindset, exercise techniques, law of attraction, the subconscious and psychology.

These are some of the characteristics of a spiritual awakening. There can be many more and not everyone has these, but many do. Once you have figured out that you are going through one, you can start to relax and know that your soul chose this space and time for you to experience this.

My biggest advice during this time is, just as the title says, Go With The Flow. If you fight an awakening it can make the difficult times harder, more exhausting, longer and create fear and anxiety. It will pass and along the way you will discover things about yourself that you may never have known or maybe you did but it had just been sub conscious. Everything is coming to the surface to be seen, acknowledged, understood, healed and loved. If you need guidance and support during this time, I offer sessions to help make your awakening easier, and faster , while gaining clarity and understanding of the process.

What has your experience been like with a spiritual awakening?

Peace health and love.
